Our Vets

Dr. Carol Spicknall

Dr. Spicknall grew up on a farm in Southern Maryland and knew she wanted to be a veterinarian at a very young age. She received her Bachelor's degree from Salisbury State University in 1992 and was awarded her Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1994.  Dr. Spicknall graduated in 1998 from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Auburn, Alabama. She worked in mixed animal practices in North Carolina for three years before returning back to Southern Maryland. She then worked for a busy small animal hospital until she had her oldest daughter in 2005. She decided to stay home to be with her children but couldn't stay away from veterinary medicine and began a house call practice part time. Once her youngest daughter was in school full time, she started working at the Calvert Well Pet Clinic. She saw the need for affordable pet health care in our county and was excited to become part of our mission. She sees patients for wellness visits on Mondays and Thursdays. When she is away from the clinic, she stays  busy with her family and their working farm. All three of her girls are involved in the county 4-H program. Dr. Spicknall is a 4-H club leader and also coaches the Calvert County 4-H Horse Team and Livestock Skillathon Team. She is very passionate about teaching children and spends most of her weekends shuttling kids to different livestock and equestrian events. In 2010, Dr. Spicknall and her husband bought a historic farm, Honey Cove Farm,  in Prince Frederick. They raise Wye Angus cattle, Boer goats, Nubian goats, market hogs and a few laying hens. They also have two horses, two ponies, two dogs and two cats. Dr. Spicknall's favorite place to be is at home on the farm riding horses with her family, and watching the silly antics of her beloved goats.

Dr. Jennifer Kosich

Dr. Kosich graduated from the Va-Md Regional College of Veterinary Medicine on the campus of Va Tech in 2002.  She has travelled across the country with her Marine husband, practicing in San Diego, Fredericksburg VA, Little Rock AR and her home town of Va Bch VA.  Dr. Kosich joined our clinic in November 2015, after 13 years in private practice. She has returned to her love of rescue medicine and is enjoying more time at home with her family and pets. She is deeply involved in the feral cat rescue group of St. Mary’s County and usually has a litter of foster kittens that her kids love to spoil and help socialize.  She enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 kids, 4 dogs, 20+ chickens, 2 kittens and her beehive. On the weekends, you can find Dr. Jen on the soccer field or at a swim meet, cheering on her kids. Dr. Jen performs spays & neuters most Tuesdays and Fridays & will examine your pet's teeth if you feel that they are in need of a dental cleaning.
